Cell Phone Fell Into Center Console - SOLVED

I have a 2005 Amanti. My cell phone was on top of the door of the cup holder on the center console. Some how the door opened and the cell phone slid down into the center console.

I want to remove the storage box from the center console but don't know where to begin. Do I have to remove the entire console?

There maybe another way. If I can remove the Rear AC TRIM Frame I might be able to reach it. But I have no Idea as to how to remove it.

I spoke to the dealer service dept. and they told me they use a special plastic tool, similar to a tongue depressor, to release the clips. Where are they located and what kind of tool would I use?

Please help

Vinnie

It looks like the upper console cover is installed on clips only. You will remove it easily. Use plastic screwdriver or something similar. For sure not anything sharp and hard.

Disappearing Cell Phone Problem Solved

I stopped by a friends house to help him with a project. While working with him I mentioned the case of the disappearing cell phone in my 2005 Amanti. He said let’s take a look. It took him about 90 seconds to retrieve the phone.

He removed the center console panel that surrounds the shifter and cup holder with a simple tool that looked like a skinny ice pick with a half inch “L” bend at the bottom. The tool couldn’t have been more than 6 inches long. He slid the tool down just below the surface, between the plastic panel and the leather covering near the corner. Rotated the tool about 90 degrees so the “L” part was under the plastic cover. Pulled up on the tool and the clip was released. He went around the panel and released all the clips. I believe there were 4 to 6 clips. I only lifted the rear part of the panel and there it was—the cell phone. We pressed the panel back down to secure it. It took about 90 seconds to complete the job.

To view the center console panel that surrounds the shifter and the cup holder check out this link.

I want to thank the moderator PLP for his input.
