2003 Kia Rio intermittent rough idle and off and on loss of power before shifting poi

It's a 5 speed, just bought the car recently. The shop I bought it from replaced the running belt, rebuilt the heads etc new plugs wires. I have found a hesitation on power that happens just before the shift points. Check engine light is on so I took to O'Reillys to pull the codes:
P1166 Con A/T
P0121 throttle pos sensor
P0101 MAF
I am disabled and know very little about cars. If I shift early or right at the point of the hesitation I am able to accelerate but if I wait I will keep slowing down. Any ideas?

Make sure the connectors on the maf Iac and tps are good clean and tight. Also clean the Iac and maf use only maf cleaner or electronics cleaner on the maf. Carb cleaner on the iac. Also check for a leaking vacuum hose esp the pcv hose to the intake. If they did the timing belt and head work start there because the had to remove alot of stuff to do it.best of luck

I took it back to the shop I bought the car from, the car had been overheating and according to them the head for warped. No cracks in the head so that was good. They rebuilt the head and fixed the issue with the overheating (I sure hope they did) but check engine light is still on and I got a poor idle when cranking the engine up. After a few minutes the idle levels out but if I try to give it gas before it levels out the car shuts off

the P0171 lean system could well be the oxygen sensor. I'm getting the same code from my 05 rio.

I've heard that MAF's go bad on 1st gen rio's. my garage told me today that he had a 05 rio like mine in last week with the same MAF problem as mine. I managed to get a used one that works the way it should and now am having no problems. either clean or replace your MAF and the problems should go away.
