Smile Bought 2002 Magentis...info wanted please

Hi all!

Well, I've finally found a forum with some info about Kia cars, and even a little about the Magentis. I'm surprised that there doesn't seem to be any mention of a UK owner's club on the internet - does anyone know better? If not, then maybe we should start one, as discount on spares would be a good start.

I've just bought a 2002 ("52" plate) Magentis 2.5 SE in metallic blue from a car dealer for not much money. It has 52,000 apparently genuine miles on the clock and a full service history. It was a part-exchange against a new Kia at Maidstone Kia.

It'll come with a year's MoT but I think the first thing I will need to do is to replace the cambelt - I wasn't certain if the 2.5 V6 engine used a chain or a belt but from reading the forum it seems that it's a belt. I don't recall seeing any mention of a belt change having been done in the service book, so better safe than sorry! I'll also get the dealer to change the oil and filter.

I was most impressed by the way the car drove - very smooth, quiet and comfortable - and I'm 6ft 8ins tall by the way. The Magentis does need some fettling; treating one or two minor dings, scratches and stone chips; cleaning and feeding the leather interior using Leatherique
( LEATHERIQUE ); cleaning the sticky muck out of the cup holders and off the door backs (probably kids with sweeties!) So hours of entertainment for me.

I live near Reading in Berkshire and I would be keen to chat to any locals who also drive a Magentis - or whether any of the local Kia dealers are any good!

I've been a Mercedes owner until now, but have decided that cheap and cheerful (hopefully!) is probably the way forward on our modern roads, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the Magentis will be an interesting and decent car to own.

Cheers,

Al
