I am about to buy a new Sorento XS 2.5CRDi 5 Speed Auto for delivery as an 05 car.
How can I be sure it will not have the problems referred to in many postings. That is
1. Replacement auto box
2. Pulley out of alignment
3. replacement transmission cooler pipes

Thanks for any helpful replies

Jeff

Jeff,

Remember this is a relatively small forum. Don't let a few comments put you off of give you second thoughts.

Personally speaking, I reviewed and researched for several weeks before making the choice of purchasing our XS Sorento 05 model. I have to say, it has surpassed my expectations. That said, you may or may not have problems, nothing is for certain. If there was a surefire way of purchasing goods without the possibities of them going wrong then I wouldn't be writing this response. I would instead be sitting on a sun drenched beach sipping cocktails with my endless wealth.

There will always be bad eggs with any car. You may get the odd problem or maybe a major one.

I went through a similar exercise in my mind. I had a freelander before my sorento, and you ought to see the problems on there forum. It was nothing but trouble.

The Sorento is a great car. In a league of its own. I've had mine a couple of weeks and I'm really pleased with it. It's a lovely drive.

I was expecting to eventually find somthing which was a bit tacky in build quality with it being a Kia. I'm still looking. In fact I'm finding exactly the opposite throughout.

Have to agree, the Sorento imho was the first of the really good Kia's, well made, quality materials, and very very few problems.

Hi, I have had an 04 Sorento for 12 months now and I am really pleased with it. I took it across Salisbury Plain with the CSMA 4*4 club and its perfomance was ona par with the other road 4*4s but beaten in parts by some specialist kit. In all we did 70 miles in the day. Otherwise I use it for caravan touring and general usage. The recalls should all have been done but if not the Kia Hepline will tell you, and the dealer will carry them out. It says something about the overall reliabilty that only 3 recalls were issued. Compared to my previous Series 2 TD5 Disco the Kia is dream for reliability and low ownership costs. Only minor niggle is that the fuel consumption is not quite as good as I would have liked. Averages around 28-30mpg, but with BP Ultimate I can get it to 32mpg, which braeks even with the extar cost of 4-5penec per litre and gives smoother running.
