Ok heres an update, I have been playing with the air pressure and doing some speed tests. The vibrations are definatly road influenced. I am getting vibrations some places and not others. I met a guy at work today who has a Neon SRT4 and is having a similar eperience albiet not as pronounced as mine. I am thinking the rolling mass as increased the "feedback" from the road. So I am looking at "better" struts and springs up front. I am also going to call some racing shops this week and look into the possibility of getting a steering damper fabricated. Does anyone have any input? TIA.

Has anyone experienced any front end vibration from after market wheels and tires?

I put 17" Motegies and 205/45ZR17 Kumhos on my 05 Spectra5. At speed there was a pronounced vibration starting at about 60 mph. At 70 and above the wheel was shaking like a chainsaw. I took the car back and had the fronts rebalanced, with no change. The sales rep then swapped out the Kuhmos with some 215/45R17 Yokahamas, with no change. The sales rep then had all the wheels broken down and spun just the wheels on the balance machine, two were not entirely true. We ordered two more and they came in and were checked on the machine and were bent. Well to make a long story short I have 4 brand new wheels from ICW and lo and behold my car shakes starting at 60mph. While I was waiting for the ICW's I had the OEM tires and wheels on with not so much as a quiver thru 95mph. I have the little plastic hub inserts installed on both sets of wheels any input will be much appreciated. Thanks. Alex

I believe they are called hubcentric inserts. Three differant wheel shops suggested them after hearing my symptoms. I also have a few friends at work that have them on their after market wheels. These inserts are plastic and about 3 millimeters thick and go around the bearing covers, from what I gather they are hub and wheel combination specific.

the road vibrations you are feeling is going to happen with the tires your using think about it...
there isnt a whole lotta tire on the rim. like in my case I got 205/40/17. 205 stand for the width of the tire. the 40 stands for the sidewall height (this is where there is less tire and you feel more of the road)

have you ever used small sidewall tires before??? if not you are always going to feel the road more with less of a sidewall.
what size tire and rim did the car come with stock???

maybe the tire size isnt right you do have to make sure you get it correct... there is a calculator to plus sizing rims....

also dont bother cahnging the air in the tires it is supposed to be at 32-35 psi no matter what.... otherwise your just going to burn them tires up quick.

The car came with 16in from the factory and I put on 17's. As you can see from the original post the new tires and wheels are by no way drastic.
I am starting to think that the OEM struts are the culprit. I am now running 40 PSI and the vibrations come and go.

-Just offering some advice from experience

If you haven't done so already, make sure the all the lugnuts are torqued to the same amount. Also, make sure they are not overtorqued.

It is also possible that one or both of your front brake rotors may be slightly warped... But when OEM wheels are on, no vibs...hmm

Check to make sure there are no round fasteners around the studs (usually on only two studs from the factory to hold the rotor on while on the assembly line). They are flat washer type metal rings that you need pliers to break and remove .This may prevent a flush seat between the wheel and the rotor. Your OEM wheels will have more clearance around the lug hole so that the fasterners don't affect the mounting surface.

My Amanti didn't have the fasteners, but my Lincoln did (most cars do) and I removed them before mounting my 20s. No vibes.

Good luck and hope that helps
