Default Vent Controller Issue

Well I've done some searching and couldn't find the exact issue, so here goes.

My girlfriend owns a 2003 Kia Spectra. For the past year she hasn't been able to switch her vent controller to anything other than the front vents. In the winter it's a pain cause the entire car has to warm up before she can go anywhere. She has heat, a/c, etc. It just seems to be a vent problem. The dial still turns but nothing happens.

I'm guess it's probably the vent problem other models have had with the plastic clip? Does anyone know of a thread how to fix this with pictures? Is this going to be a big job to fix or will it just be easier to get the dealer to do it?

Thanks.

you might want to go to the dealer, the controls are electronic, when you turn the knob, vent selector is actually changed using an electric motor somewhere in the dash, you can try fixing it, but it could be the switch, the controller, or the electric motor that has gone bad

If you take the panel out, the vent portion, on the back there are these little rods connected from the controler panel to the vents. These rods seem to come off a lot that I have noticed. So with that said, take it out and put the rods back on.

I know this thread is old but I have the same problem with my wifes car. The hot / cold motor works fine. The vent actuator motor doesn't move at all for me and is stuck on the defrost position. I'm trying to determine whether or not it's the motor or the switch it self before I head to the dealer to have them work on it. Either way the actuator is ~$100 and whatever install would cost. Looks really hard to get to the vent actuator.

Definitely not a connecting rod issue as the only rods there are in the system are the ones connected to each actuator (motor) and all those are connected.

Digital_Reaper... Did you ever get the problem resolved on your car?
