Default blow off valve???

What is the purpose of a blow off valve. Do you have to have a turbo to have one, I like the sound of them sqeezing off.. I would like to get one for my sx but I dont want to spring for turbo money too....

A BOV reliaves pressure on the compressor wheel when the throttle is closed.. It acts on the principle of boost force a pluger up and vacuum sucking on the back side of the plunger so with no boost you will have no blow off valve.. So basically if you want the sound you need the turbo or you can buy one of those ebay speaker thingys but I wouldn't recommend it.

If that is ever an issue with anyone I know. I will be convinced that their brain is made of the same stuff as the BOV. LOL. WOW!
