Default Kia Pride 2000 : engine starting problem

Hi there. I have Kia Pride model 2000(1.3; 64HP) and I have problem with starting engine in the morning when air is humid.

One morning, after made ~35000km, engine started hard. Soon after I went to "regular annual service", and I ask to replace sparkplugs. They did replace sparkplugs and no problem again next ~45000km(4 years). Same problem arise five months ago. This time engine didn’t start at all. Then, I took the car to the authorized service. Left in the front of the garage in the evening (towed to the garage). Tomorrow arrived answer from the garage:“ I just turned the key an engine started. Our measurements show that everything is as it has to be”.
The same problem arises a few days later, Then I replace sparkplugs, and no further problem. Until now, five months later.

First and second time I could say that the life of sparkplugs is abt. 40000km. But now, I didn’t make 10000km in last five months. Obviously the sparkplugs are not the key problem. It seems that new plugs just helped to bypass the problem.

Often, it won’t start one morning, but the same day in the afternoon will start without any problem. Or some other day.

Once when starts, works very nice.

If you have any idea where to seek the problem, please let me know.

Welcome to the forum.

If you have a problem with the spark plugs, such as the electrode gap being too large, a problem could become evident when the humidity is high.

What spark plugs are you using and what gap?

I don't have the specifications for the Pride, but I would advise using a plug gap of 0.75mm (0.03").

If the correctly gapped spark pugs does not cure the problem, then you may have a problem with the ignition coil, distributor or HT wires.

The spark plugs are those suggested by the car manufacturer and the same as replaced ones: NGK. And proper model. They are just five months old. Last time, five months ago, when I’ve changed them, I also inspected cables and connections. Cables look "as good as new ones", no signs of damage or cracks in insulating rubber. Connectors are without any sign of corrosion.

Once started, engine works perfect.
