Default KIA MENTOR 97/98 - 1st and 2nd gear problems

The car is fine in all aspects apart from one annoying problem. From starting warm or cold it idles great, no misfiring or other noticeable problems. I then would gently press the gas and release clutch and the damn thing judders like a learner driver would. The only way out of the judder is to engage clutch and creep so to speak. I could also floor the gas pedal and it accellerates as you'd expect without judder. The same damn thing happens in 2nd gear. I cannot creep in slow traffic because of this and find myself clutching or coasting.
I feel it maybe the TPS throttle position sensor, anyone know how I test it as i do have a voltmeter and ohms tester but no schematics or repair manual for the car.
Could anything else cause the above without any other problems being existant?

Any idea's or better still, answers would be greatly appreciated.

Bad weather outside so haven't checked things like fuel filter not that i know where it is on this model yet though. Checked fuses all OK but noticed it happens in 3rd gear too, only noticeable with low revs.

Mark

the shudders in low revs can be caused by any of the following :

1) thin clutch lining - thereby causing a 'delay' in engaging the engine and the transmission.

2) clutch adjustment - your clutch might be set too low. you might need to adjust the clutch so that it engages / disengages with lesser pressure on the pedal (no need to push it all the way down, maybe only halfway).

3) engine support - worn out / damaged engine support in the front and rear of the engine can cause the delay as the engine 'twists' a bit when the clutch engages the engine and the transmission.

4) engine timing - most modern engines have automatic timing, but checking it and having it set to the correct settings often helps.

Thanks for tip, I know this can be diagnosed in many ways but I fixed the problem and here are my findings.

--------------

Firstly for technical and manual use this link and register as an owner.
Kia Global Information System (KGIS)
Once your logged in goto SHOP link and use the dropdown menu's to select your model.
For Mentor 1.5 I used the Sephia 1.6 for info and is very similar but use at own risk.

Also note that my problem for 1st and 2nd gear engine stutter or judder was repaired in the following way.
Firstly I changed my plug gaps to 1.0 mm as they were set less than this, the 4th plug was actually correct. I then bought a Carb Cleaner and removed the air pipe to the carb body. Its the biggest pipe you'll see and I noticed a gaping slash in it. Repaired the slash with a strong household glue. Sprayed the cleaner into the air intake of the carb (Multi-EFI) and it was caked in black soot or gunk, cleaned what I could get at.
Went for a test drive and its running smooth.
I recommend this method before replacing sensors as the manifold intake maybe very dirty and the carb cleaner will apparently help with fuel economy (Apparently)

Thanks all.
