Default Kia carens / help required!

Hi all,

I have owned a Kia Carens for just over a year now, and I am happy with it, aside from a few annoyances..... which considering the new price I paid for it can be lived with.

Just recently a friend offered me an in car dvd/mp3 player with 8" flat screen display..a no make from China.

In order to fit it I basically cut off the iso connector from the kenwood radio which was already in, and replaced each cable colour coded using cable extensions (or the little rectangle things, with screws in which allow you to clamp a wire in a tighten it up).

To my horror, the new audio unit started destroying my car, it blew 3 fuses, messed up the interior clock, and the central locking, and the control unit (the little computer effort you get in the middle of the dash board).

I checked "some" fuses, and replaced the memory fuse (15), now the central locking, and control unit work (apart from the lights no longer flash when I use the central locking )...however the interior clock is refusing the work!

These aren't life or death issues, but are annoying me as I was stupid enough to play around with things I don't understand...and now ive broken the car

perhaps someone is able to help out?

ps...the new audio unit which created all the original issues is now out!

i doubt it if you'll be able to claim warranty from the dealership (if the warranty has not been exceeded) since they did not install the new audio / video unit. its best that you ask the dealership or a reputable auto electrician to take a look at it.

thanks for your post, my carens is still under warranty, and is close to the 30 thousand Km service, the kia mech is a friendly chap so perhaps he'll take a look for me during the service.

Everything is back to normal now, after some tinkering around, however my clock will not work! Has anyone an idea where the clock electrics runs from, which fuse affects it??

the clock electrics runs on three lines, one running direct to the battery, the other is a ground and the other runs through the ignition. again, best to let the mechanic fix it (but be sure to watch how he does it so that next time you'll know what to do).
