Exclamation need some advice on my kia pride lx 94

Hello fellow kia owners! I have always had a problem with my pride lx '94 when I bought it 2nd hand. This is my first car so I thought everything was normal at first. Everytime I use it the engine always dies on me, it's not hard starting but when you step on the gas and release it the engine just dies. My rpm needle is not fixed on 1 spot when in idle compared with other prides that I have seen. I hope somebody has already encountered this same problem as I have spent some money on it already but the mechanics just can't fix the problem. I have had the following replaced: Alternator, battery, starter, ignition coil, high-tension wires, spark plugs, distributor, carburetor has been overhauled and the engine has also been top-overhauled.

I'm also gonna need some paint job / body repair but I'm a little tight on budget. Are there any good/cheap shop out there you can recommend? Thanks!

yep - had this problem too....you can check out the following :

1) your fuel intake (where you put in the gas) has a leak or there is a leak somewhere in the fuel system allowing air to enter your tank. when it does, water condenses inside your tank...and it gets sucked up your fuel filter. (kia pride's fuel filters are very small. i modified mine so that now i use a nissan sentra's fuel filter which is 10 times bigger). water sucked up the fuel filter clogs it up and so the engine dies when left in idle.

also a leak in the fuel system causes a failure to build up pressure. This pressure must be maintained in order for the fuel pump to work properly. Failure to build up pressure can causes the engine to die because not enough fuel is being sucked up by the fuel pump / carburator.

b) your idling / fuel and air mixture settings in the carburator is all wrong. suggest you get a better mechanic to deal with this.

c) have your timing checked. although it is automatic - its still worth checking out.

hope this helps. you can e mail me at hanzel371@yahoo.com if you have further inquiries.

Carl I think you've already spent too much money on the problem. get a good mechanic, better yet, take the car for a visit to the KIA dealership at Silver City, at Tiendesitas on C5 an get a real diagnosis of the problem. It shouldn't cost too much
