Been reading the forum for a while, but this is first post. Warning on an item I never thought would happen.

I went into a large commerical tire dealer (Virginia) to receive State Inspection and tire rotation of my 200 Kia Sportage. An hour later received my vehicle and drove off.

Immediately the brake light came on, and I thought it was strange since I just had an inspection. But I also just had a new battery installed. I then drove from VA to MD. Since I fly a lot, my Kia sets a lot. The tmes I have driven found the brake light still. Finally last went I went to a Kia dealer.

He told me my ABS Assembly was missing, and it was #1800 to replace. I looked in the engine compartment and it was gone. The tire dealer had taken it. Only two bolts held it in place. Later I found the tire manager takes items off vehicles after service. You then return, they put your part back on and charge you for fixing it.

The police not have the case.

Have a good day.

That is just wrong. How can people sleep at night after doing something like that. Good luck with this issue and keep us posted.

Here in Ohio we have an 800 hotline to the Attorney General's office. If you really want to pursue the issue (I sure as hell would) you might want to see if VA has something similar. In my experience you'll get a lot farther if you carefully document everything, like have your reciept for the inspection, have the Kia service manager put in writing the exact part missing etc. Call the inspection station, talk to the owner and tell him what has happened-make very clear that you WILL pursue this as far as need be. Record the conversation if possible. Out of curiosity, What is the name of the garage? Good luck! Cheers-Marty

How can this happen....I'm intrigued! Don't the brake lines screw into the ABS block? If the block was removed wouldn't it need to be replaced with someting? Or is it an electrical unt? I know on some cars I've worked on with the ABS removed we had fluid going everywhere !
