Hi!

I am having problems with my Kia Spectra.

1) When on Idle, the rpm tends to fluctuate up and down. This happens very often sometimes when the car is cold and sometimes even when it is warm. When put on 'N' this also happens. Have sent to many mechanics and each time after a few thousand Kilometers, it will happen again.

2) When raining and there are puddles of water, if I speed through, the whole car will vibrate. Checked with the service men and was told this is a design defect.

3) A cranking sound sometimes when I start my car. Was told it was the flywheel problem. Have changed it and problem was rectified at first. Now, sometimes I still get the cranking sound.

Any of you have this problems?

-Haven't face this before, though most of the kia service centers are useless in Malaysia you may try chan siow lin outlet.

2) When raining and there are puddles of water, if I speed through, the whole car will vibrate. Checked with the service men and was told this is a design defect.

-This is because spectra is design for korean, cold environment. The transmittion is equiped with heater, if you drive through puddles of water it will heat up & vibrate. It can be disable, ask chan siow lin outlet to do it for you.

3) A cranking sound sometimes when I start my car. Was told it was the flywheel problem. Have changed it and problem was rectified at first. Now, sometimes I still get the cranking sound.

-Not sure of this, mine have a lot of noise near flywheel too when start enginee, but disapear when on the road. Not causing any problem, may be just a A/C belt noise

Looks like Chan Siow Lin service is better than Kia's services espcially Naza's.
Any other workshops to recommend?

Naza's service is Pathetic. All the waiting and they still cannot solve the problems. had all the same problem as below and heard it applies to all Spectra cars. Damn embarrasing. Every morning my neightbour driving a proton keeps wondering whether I have problem maintaining the car with all the sound it makes.

Try Korean Car Specialist at Bandar Tun Razak. Shop operated by 2 koreans. Have my car service there since 30k km service, shorter q, more pro, no complaint so far.

Code:
I had the same problem. Took it to the Service Center in Puchong. They replace a part..not sure what it was...something about ti affected by use and sand etc. Cost about 80 ringgit to replace it....After much complaining they waived the labour cost since I had it done at the same time as a service.

Have the same problem. Only when I start the car. On the road it's fine. Found that if you crank the engine a bit...before starting ...it goes away. Not sure if it's a belt prob...sure sounds like one.

When rpm needles fluctuates, I am told it is a actentuator problem and needs to be serviced or at worst replaced.

i know this is a bit late, but my car has been giving me this idling problem for some time. it comes on and off, but lately its becoming worse. i have my car for close to 3 1/2 years now and maybe at its old age, this problem is worsening. i have checked with the service center at jalan chan sow lin, but their advise was something to do with its electronics and according to the mechanic, nothing can be done. but this problem is bugging me and i would just like to know if anyone who has this problem managed to get it fixed ? please help for i'm starting to dislike my car. its no longer a joy to drive.

Question

Well have you guys checked on the engine tunning. Sometimes the tunning of the engine needs to be done regularly and it will then resolve the idlle time problems.
