Default `08 "ESC OFF" Light Problems.

Hi All, I`m a newbie to this site and just purchased a `08 Sportage with 5,000mi on it. The only problem is that the "ESC OFF" light keeps coming on for no reason. It seems to reset after a startup then can come on anytime it wants. The dealer wants $90.00 to scan it. Anybody have any ideas???. Thank You, hal

thirst of all, to the forum, take time and add info to your profile
second: screw the dealer, they are not supposed to charge you anything for repair under warranty (you said 2008 Sportage with less than 12000 miles, right?) So it still should be covered under 12/12 warranty, and even if not, 50/60 applies.
third - there are known issues (brake switch), ESC OFF switch...
and last thing - it may come on when you loose traction (skidding wheels, too hard turn and so on)

In other words, whenever you see the light to be on (flashing) while driving it means ESC was activated.

halco46, welcome to the forum. I've gotten a lot of good information from the guys here. I had the same problem with my '09 Sportage. There's a 5-page thread about this problem: http://www.kia-forums.com/2g-2005-sp...-re-esc-4.html. Check it out. The repair should be covered under warranty. Hope this helps solve your problem.

On the KIA GIS site that you have access to there is an article about it. Look at it print and take it to the dealer. It is there problem. In addition I was told the warranty transfers from owner to owner.

eandras, is there a article that applies to the 07 Sportage also? I do know about the recall on the 07s but KIA said mine is not one of them, even though I have had the "ESC OFF" problem for the last year and a half.

Thanks

Teddy

Thanks Everybody, I`ve contacted the dealer and they now say it`s covered under the warranty so there will be no charge to check it out. Will let y`all know what happens.
