2001 sportage brake light comes on

whenever i brake hard (short stop) brake lite comes on and goes out otherwise the car brakes normal brakes inspected 5 weeks ago and looked almost new what could be wrong,

Might want to check the brake fluid level! The light will come on when the fluis is low and in your case, slosh around when you brake hard!

topped off fluid level drove around did a hard brake lite comes on still and then goes off under normal braking no brake lite

I still believe it is the switch that is for low fluid! Maybe the float does't float! Lift it up and tie a string around the float and tie it up so it will not move! Put cap on and try again witha hard break!
