Smile fuel refill problem

HELLO FELLAS!!
RECENTLY WE START TO HAVE PUMPING GAS INTO THE TANK ! ,WE CAN'T POUR IT THE GAS NOT EVEN SLOWLY, THE PIPE GETS OVERFILLED AND BLOW GAS BACK!
AFTER A FEW CHECKS , HERE AND THERE , I DISCOVER A BREATHER-FILTER LIKE DEVICE , LOCATED UNDER THE BACK DOOR +- 12" X 8" X 6" WITH 2 HOSES CONNECTED , ONE 1/2" OTHER SMALL LIKE 1/4" PLUS A WIRE,.
I DESASSEMBLY THE WHOLE UNIT ( ATTACHED WITH 4 HEX 10 mm BOLTS )
AND THE ELECTICAL PLUG THAT HAS AN SQUARE " U" SHAPE CLIP HOLDING IT TO THE ON-OFF SOLENOID VALVE!
I COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING ALIKE ON THE PARTS SALES PAGES , NOR BY F
PHOTO OR NAME, SO I DECIDE TO FIX IT MYSELF .
BLOWING THRUE THE HOLES I FIND SOME RESISTANCE , SO I GET RID OF SOME OF THE CARBON PELLETS THAT FILLS IT THE DEVICE , UNTIL I CAN BLOW IT THRU MORE FREELY , I INSTALL ALL BACK AND WENT TO THE GAS STATION TO FILL IT UP .
RESULT: SUCSESS !! I FIILIT AT FULL SPEED WITH NO BACK UP BLOW OF THE GAS !! ,
I HOPE THIS CAN HELP YOU GUYS WITH THIS PROBLEM !
LUIS FEHER ORLANDO FL .

On a 2009 Sportage 2.7 LX 4WD the unit that you might be looking at is thefuel tank air filter. If that gets clogged there is no way to allow the vaccuum to be released when filling causing pressure in the tank.

We're having the same problem with our 2002 Sportage that we just bought. The first few fillups went fine, but now all of a sudden it won't allow gas to be added at all. Any other solutions? Thanks

I've also had the same problem with my 02 and discovered that the problem almost never occurs if I don't let it go past 1/4 tank. I try my hardest to not go past 1/2 if I can... but the pressure doesn't build up so bad if there's more gas in the tank!! Hope that helps a little!
