Default timing Qs

I just bought a 2000 sportage and have heard these have an interference motor is ths true and i am going to replace the timing belt what parts will i need and what should be replaced while im in there.and where in the heck can i get a haynes or chilton manual for these rigs

yes they are interferance engines. while you are in there, check all the idler pulley bearings and cam and crank seals. Now is the time to do seals if you are in there.

Your engine is a NON interferance engine search the posts in the 1G forum for details of 'timing belt' troubles others have had.
Also go to Kia Global Information System (KGIS) for an online manual you will not find a printed one as far as I know.

Hmmm, i stand corrected. We dont have many of those up here, they rot way too fast here with the salt on the roads. They just cant stand up to it. I have only heard of them blowing up but may have been for other reasons. Good to know.

It doesn't matter if your engine is interference type or not, as long as you align the timing marks with number one cylinder at TDC on compression stroke and not let it move with the belt off you will have no problems.
