Default 2008 Kia Sportage Knocking sound from A/C

I have a 2008 Kia Sportage EX. It has 13,500 miles on it and for the last few weeks I have noticed a knocking noice from the a/c while idling. It is not there when the a/c is turned off. I am afraid to turn my A/C on! Anyone know what this may be? I have already had issues with the ESC and tire pressure monitoring lights staying on that have since been fixed. I haven't even had this car a year and now something else is wrong

Thanks!

By all means, get your vehicle back to the dealer for service, Your warranty should cover any issues for many miles more. I've had my '08 Sportage LX for eight months and have zero problems, it's a great car.

Angry a/c knocking

I have just had my sorento to the dealer where I bought it. They said the knocking is a normal characteristic. It did not do it when I bought it. I will be contacting KIA. I would like to know if anyone else had the issue resolved.

hello I own a 07 Sportage lx v6 and i have also experienced the knock. it is a mishapen pulley assembly i read and that is just what mine sounds like. kind of a constant knock that really only happens when the compressor engages. I wouldnt be worried to use the AC for now, i have 25000 and live in orlando so aC is a must and it is still working just fine. if the dealership tells you it is normal call kia and print out the service bulletin and go back with that or try another kia place, but they should fix it. I believe there is a service bulletin out on the issue. take a look on kiatechinfo.com and you will probably find it. if not i will look and see what i find. i am still learning to love my kia sportage. It was totally my wife's choice and she loves it, its just my job to make sure it keeps running. i will make the appointment this week and let you know how it goes.

KT2007081504
this is the TSB from kiatechinfo.com

"Inspection Procedure: Disc & Hub / Pulley Diagnosis (Abnormal Noises)

1. With the Engine ‘Off,’ visually inspect the disc and rubber insulator for abnormal signs of heat or distortion of the rubber insulator on the disc & hub. Determine root cause of abnormal signs of heat and or disc & hub distortion, and repair. If the disc & hub are visually ok, continue on to functional test in steps #2~5.

2. Start Engine. Turn the Air Conditioning (HVAC) to the ‘On’ position.

3. Verify engagement of the compressor disc & hub, monitor the cycling of the compressor clutch for abnormal noises / knocking and vibrations during disc & hub engagement. If abnormal noises and vibrations are suspected in the disc & hub assembly, proceed to step #4.

4. Allow the A/C to cycle for a period of ten (10) minutes and examine the front of the A/C disc & hub for abnormal concentric disc & hub rotations after A/C clutch engagement. After the A/C has cycled off, visually inspect for abnormal rubbing or engagement of the disc & hub. If you suspect that the disc & hub is worn, remove the disc & hub and inspect for abnormal wear or slipping conditions / face wear and replace if necessary following the service procedures in this bulletin."
