Default 2002 Sportage - no compression

Greetings,

I've been searching and reading several posts that are pretty close to my issue, but not quite exactly. But, I thinkk I've came to a conclusion and wanted some feedback to my situation & also to check that I've done as much testing as possible.

The Fan exploaded a couple weeks ago. Some pieces of fan blades punctured the radiator, so it overheated. When the 'bang' happened, the car didn't go but 300 yards and it started loosing power. Within a mile the car took the exit off the highway and at the stop sign, it died. I was thinking it was a belt or something, and was amazed at the mess of the fan blades.
The engine was smoking like overheated ones do, and a nice trail of coolant puddled up under it.

The car was towed, and so the 'fun' begins. It turns over and over without starting or even a cylinder firing. Checked fuel, and it was making it past the fuel pump. So we thought it might have jumped timing and possibly be a TB issue. Took the front off so we could see all timing marks and they were off by a tooth or two on one cam.

We loosened the belt and got all three marks on the money and tightened it up. Not matter what, it just doesn't fire. We're getting spark, and we put some ether (sp? quick start) and it farted out of the intake a few times. So we're testing compression and only getting 40psi. We're expecting 140+ on the comression gage, but no go.

So, it seems like it's a head problem. Warped, cracked gasket....

That's what I have so far....what do you folks think?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

either gasket or head. You will not find out if you do not remove it.
If it overheated it is very likely damage to head took place.
Once removed - check valves.
Why did you have TB two teeth off?

Thanks for the quick response. I had a couple other guys over that felt the belt was two notches off on the exhuast side, and they rolled it to what they felt was right. I was never quite sure of their old eye site. So when I finally got the bottom of the cover off, I got all three on the money....and the E side cam needed roled back a bit....so I'm not really sure if it was ever off to begin with......dagnabbit.... You know how some old friends can be! *smile*

Off with the heads...should be fun. thanx and I'll post back in a few days with what I find.
