Question Grinding Issues

Hey Everyone,
I had just acquired a 2001 Kia Sportage 2X4 and just recently have had an issue with squeaking/grinding issue from the front end. I have pulled off the wheels and looked at the brakes and there appears that there is enough "meat" on the pads to rule out that it is brakes grinding. I am also not 100% sure its wheel bearings because upon jacking up the front end and spinning the wheels independently I do not hear the noise. Any suggestions?

Just to let you know I have found out that it was a carrier bearing that has been torn to shreds.
