Exclamation Weird grinding?

My friend just bought a 1998 Kia Sportage with 71k miles on it.

now the car is in great shape for a 98, no damage what so ever.

but the only problem she is having and ive heard it too while riding in the car is, usually when she comes to a complete stop and turns left and accelerates it makes a grinding noise and sound like something is griping something and not allowing it to turn, but it goes away after a few seconds.

my first thought is the rear drum breaks, that maybe some how they are to tight and gripping. but what im confused about is if she is breaking then the front breaks would be the actual "breaks" for stopping and the rear would be the E brake.

why would the rear drums be catching? or could it be with the rear differential?

oh the sound is coming from the back left.

ps. instead of starting another thread....

her a/c doesnt blow cold air but when a gage is hooked up to the ac thing it says its a 35 psi.

does it just need to be drained and re filled? how do i go about doing that?

the rear axle is a positraction design, both wheels are locked together (simpified) .
when cornering if you accelerate the inside wheel will start trying to spin the positraction clutch will slip and cause a noise, the noise should come from the inside wheel in a turn, in a left turn it's the left rear . right turn right rear sometimes from middle. worth considering before brakes and expensive bearings.
aircon if system is pressurized then look at compressor wiring , fuses, and connections. also if all else fails have the compressor checked. good luck

those sportages are really bad for the front needle bearings on the front axles and i have seen them bad enough where they bind up. Just an idea.

front and back brakes control the braking going forward or reverse, handbrake doubles up on rear brakes.
