I just had a similar noise on my 2002. I checked all the belts and they were tight and not worn so I thought sam thing water pump bearing, alt, sir con or poewer steering pump. While I was under the bonnet I checked the oil and noticed it was a about 1/2-3/4 litre down. A couple of days later I checked the belts again and still fine, but this time I also topped up the oil. THe noise went away.

Very strange, never came across any thing like this before.

I'm having trouble following all of this...

Are you saying you continue to get the same noise with the AC belt off ?

Is this noise a HIGH pitched screeching sound, or a LOW pitched grinding sound ?

From you other post, I believe you were using the WD40 on the Power Steering pulley.

Gary

Do the PS belt first (< $10)... then worry about the entire pump later.

Make sure that there is enough fluid in the PS pump.
