Default I need help here people. Owner of a 2001 Kia Sportage.

I have just recently bought a 2001 Kia Sportage 4x4 4dr. There is a button on the dash that says Eco Power, when it's pushed a light comes on the display console that says pwr.

What is this for? I cant find it anywhere in the manual and the dealship I bought it from didn't know.

Any and all advice is very welcome, thanks.

I believe its purpose is to prevent the transmission from shifting into the highest gear -- I've never used it on my 02 Conv (170k miles). I guess it would be useful if you do a lot of driving in hilly areas with a heavy load and/or when towing... to keep the transmission from constantly downshifting.

I assume that you have an Automatic Transmission. It is strange that they don't mention this switch in the owners amanual. From my experience the Economy/Power switch usually changes the shift patern of an automatic. In Eco mode it shifts up to the next gear sooner theoretically lowering the engine revs and saving fuel. When you wnat power instead of economy you switch into power mode and the transmission holds it shift a bit longer so you accelerate a bit faster. I don't know if it locks out the 4th gear (overdrive) of the transmission or not.

I also own a 2001 Sporty that has the same button on the dash. The attached photo is of the page in my manual that refers to it.
Hope this helps out.
