Question 2000 Sportage oil leaking

After taking our 2000 Sportage to the local oil changing business, I've noticed that it's leaking oil onto the garage floor. When I asked the guy who changed my oil why it was doing this, his response was that because of how the oil filter is positioned it tends to leak a little excess oil after replacing it. After a few weeks, it still leaks and it seems to be leaking more than it originally did.

Is this guy full of BS or do I need to have my car looked at?
I honestly don't know the first thing about fixing cars (go figure-since I don't even change the oil myself, right?).

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Unfortunately, the filter is located in such a way that it will dump all the oil out that is in it when it is changed. It makes a mess and some oil may drip for a day or two after your oil change. However, it should not be leaking after this much time has gone by. I would take it back and have them insure that the drain plug and the new filter is tight.

2000 sportage has some o rings that go out in the oil cooler, which the oil filter is mounted to about 10.00 $ worth of parts, unfortunately on mine the seal on the cooler to adapter is bad and you have to teplace the whole cooler or chance silicone. local dealer has sold 4 coolers this year, i k noww bummer.

It's normal to get a few oil drips after getting a oil change, the filter is in such a position that when you change it out you will spill some oil on to the frame and t-case, it's this old oil trapped in the frame rails and nooks and crannies of the t-case hat drip down, however the amount of oil should not increase over time and should go away after a week.

Try getting some parer towel and wipping the area around the oil filter dry, make sure you clean the outside of the filter and just below it, so when you wipe a clean sheet of paer towel over it no oil is visible. Then go for a short drive. After the oil has had a chance to circulate get a clean sheet of paer towel and wipe around the oil filter, check the paer towel. If there is fresh oil visible on the towel you have a leak, if the towel is free of new oil, the filter is probally not leaking.
