Default 2000 kia sportage timing

My sportage blew the timing belt. What are the chances it did not damage valves or pistons and does anyone have the alignment directions ? 2.0 L 2000 KIA SPORTAGE

Your in luck as the 2.0 engine in the Sportage isn't damaged by timing belt breakage. Order up a timing belt kit off of e-bay. I got a kit with the belt, two idler pulleys and a water pump for $102 and that includes shipping. Good luck!!!

OK, open and bookmark this site... or go and buy the $185 factory service manual. As I have said to other forum members, this site is not all inclusive but is very good for the every day general and maintenance problems. The dealer techs refer to and use this site all the time. Your timing belt problem falls perfectly within the capabilities of what this site has to offer.

The DOHC 2.0L engine in the Sportages is a NON-Interference type engine. If all you did was break or slip the timing belt you should be fine. The timing belt KIT that danvhp mentioned is the best way to go in my opinion also. This is what I did on my daughter 00' sporty.

Global Service Way

On the GDS site you will find a section that covers the replacement procedure for the timing belt. The only thing I found tricky was aligning the 2 cam shafts on the index marks while getting the belt on and then the belt tensioning process. But if your asking questions then you must be capable and I will leave it at that....

Good Luck to you...

Oh, and welcome to the Forum, just noticed that this is your first post...

talk to me about the timing marks, when i replace the belt some time ago i noticed the marks on the two cam pullys seem not to set exactly next to the mark naturally, do you have to hold them there and get the belt on, or where they naturally lay, just about a half mark off is the correct place, it would seem odd to have to try to hold them there when it wants to rest comfortably... anyway, i have the same ruff idle , have replace the coils, thought about it being a clogged converter, cant get the damn o2 sensor out, have put the monkeysass worth of large wrench on it and wd40, no budge, noticed a way to check with multimeter and will be doing that, i can drive it and do daily, just have to pull away really slow, barely feeding her gas with the pedal, then milk it up and get on highway, noting to never pull into oncoming traffice cuz she has no balls at all, but i can get it up to 80 mph and it gets 18 mpg still, wife wont drive it at all, i have been messing with this thing for 2 years now and still no answer, yes the cell is on, and yes it flash's when i depress the pedal at all, quits flashing when i release the pedal, yes i have done compression test, lucky to have that device, all is even and all is good

loader, I'm new to the kia I also just changed the timing belt myself two weekends ago, and yes you have to hold the camshaft gears with a couple of 17 mm wrenches, (two person job at this point)and make sure you have the crankshaft aligned with its mark, the belt slipped right on then I pulled it through several times to make sure marks allgned up, then to tighten the belt you move the camshft to align the S with the mark (camshaft) then tighten the belt. Turn the crank shaft two revolutions to make sure the marks all stayed aligned. I read on here some poeple plugged the waterpump outlet and the radiator hoses and then start the engine before reinstalling everything to make sure everything is correct. (I didn't do this I didn't know about it till after the fact, but I would have) Mine runs great the belt I replaced had 81,000 miles on it.
