Default 1995 Sportage Immobiliser UK

Hello all, just joined.

Bought a 1995 Sportage for my wife, (very surprised with what you get for the money after hearing years of rumours about Kia) There is a problem in that the immobiliser fob is in several pieces and fear is the actuator will get lost. Can the immobiliser be bypassed or controlled by a manual switch replacement? I realise this may be a touchy subject to reply to as there could be an element looking in who could use this for non genuine reasons!

jimbosin,
I do not know if what I posted awhile back applies to your UK 1995 version. I know if this car was sold in the States it would not be OBDII compliant for the model year and thus would make me think that many other things were different, including the alarm system. Kia introduced the sporty to the US in 1998.

However on the chance that I am wrong, have a look at the link below. If you haven't done so, I would do a search in this forum on RKE, Alarm, Immobiliser and you get the point. Now that I am thinking about it, are you sure the immobiliser system was from Kia? I didn't think they were factory installing them (or dealer) back then. Another one I could be mistaken about.

Good Luck...

OK, its not an RKE although the module looks virtually the same. It is key entry, a small what appears to be a watch battery is then placed against a sensor on the steering column to change the indicator light from flashing red to steady green to allow starting. I fitted a n/o spring return switch in place of the sensor but no joy. There is a voltage coming to the sensor from the module approx 3volts so I cant understand the functionality of the watch battery thing.
