Default Do I need help? Oil gauge or pump?

I have a 2002 Kia Sportage.
This morning the oil warning light started flashing.
The lifters started tapping.
Turned it off. Checked the oil. All was good.
Started it back up. No light. No noise.
Been running fine all day.
What is wrong?

Mike.

Someone has put too heavy an oil in your car. Do not be swayed to using the 10/30 (or heavier) instead of the 5/30. 5/30 gets to the head and to the gauge quicker and is not as thick.

I use a 5W30.
Does it matter that I had been driving for two hours, before this happened?

Sounds like you had a blockage in one of the oil feed holes leading to the valves/valve adjusters (upper engine) The only question is why? blockage due to sludge, old oil thickening up, debris in the oil, faild oil filter, or a failing oil pump that is cavitating creating air pockets in the oil.

I'd run some seafoam in the crank for about 100k then get an oil change. Then keep an eye on things.
