Gas Filler Door Cable Replacement, '96 Sportage

The cable that goes to the gas filler door has broken right where it attaches to the lever. From my previous experience with Kia cables for the hood and rear spare tire release, it could be difficult to trace and replace. There is a little bit of the cable hanging out of sheath at the lever end and I could try to jury rig some kind of a splice. Any advice on fixing this would help.

Thanks for the suggestion but I was not able to find any info on this particular repair at the GDS site. It may be one of those repairs that is considered easy for someone with "reasonable" mechanical savy. I am trying to figure out whether I will need to replace the whole cable assembly...which means tracking down the routing in the chassis, OR, whether there is some other way to fix/patch/splice the existing cable.
