Default Power mirrors won't work, '96 Sportage

Factory power mirrors. Has 4 position switch and L/R selector mounted in dash. Initially, right side stopped responding to down. Replaced mirror position switch in dash. Right and left side started to respond by moving together to up and right arrow. Blew fuse and smelled smoke from switch. Got new switch and now both right and left go up with up arrow AND right arrow. Other directions, down and left do not work. Left and right selector switch works. Don't have schematic of mirrors so difficult to scope out circuitry. Can't belive both mirror motors are defunct. Perhaps someone has a schematic they would be willing to share.

For a start if both mirrors are actually moving then there is nothing wrong with the motors.

It does sound like a switching problem

http://www.kiatechinfo.com/default.asp (register if necessary, may need to download a viewre from Adobe if asked (legit))

LHS of panel, click "ETM" Electrical Tech Manual(??)*

Enter year/model from drop down lists (leave last two boxes as their default)

Look up the power outside mirror, about 2/3 of the way down the list for the schematic, click on file that opens in left panel, diagram should appear in right panel.

* First three items are "Shop" the online service manual, ETM, and "DTC" for all the Diagnostic trouble codes and their diagnosis and faiult finding.

Thanks Damkia,

I was able to get the schematic and manually verify the mirror motors worked. From there I was able to determine the new 2nd switch I obtained from Kia, was not working. Got another mirror switch, plugged it in, and everything worked fine.

Thanks.
