Default 2001 Sportage Fuel Pump

I have a 2001 Kia Sportage that won't start. I believe that it is the fuel pump because when I put fuel in the air intake it will run for a couple of seconds and die again. I have located the fuel pump wiring under the rear seat. Is there any way I can use a volt/ohm meter to check if I am getting power to the pump? There are two pig tail connectors connected to the pump. One has three pins the other has five. I am wondering which of the pins I would have to put the test leads in to check if I am getting power to the pump? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The 3 pin one should be the fuel pump power, the other is for the fuel gauge I believe.

there's some good info at: Kia Tech or GDS on checking your fuel pump out (pressure, etc.) as well as replacement.

Good luck!

Default Many an Hour Problem Solved

Hi Gang,

We check, fuses, fuse, fuses, relays, wiring, pulled he pump tested the motor direct. it was a faulty connection at the ground wire to the plate where the pump connects under the rear seat. By the way the folllow is for a 91 Caprice, but with the exception that you do no have to lower the tank. the following will give some one what they are in for.

BTW, the hardest part of the whole think was pulling off the quick release connectors at the fuel filter. Even with the so called special tools. The Kia does not allow space to be worked on.

All the best, Phil Diakun
