Charging a cell phone?

Hi, all

I am thinking of using a 12V dashboard port on my Sportage LX to charge a cell phone or tablet when the car is being driven.

Can any fellow forum members recommend a suitable adaptor?

Is an inverter needed? If not, what kind of plugs would be required for connection to the 12V port?

Thanks in advance!

Greetings,

For a cell phone, a standard 12 volt -> 5 volt USB adapter: you would then use a standard USB -> to micro USB cable to hookup between the adapter and your cell phone: check your phone manual, or google your cell phone brand/model online, to see what type of power port your cell phone has, so you purchase the correct adapter cable.

For a tablet, if the charger plugs into a house wall socket (120 volt A/C), you would need a 12 volt -> to 120 Volt A/C car Inverter: a smaller (80 watt) inverter would plug into the power port.

* Some tablets can be charged off a 5 volt USB adapter, so again, google the brand/model tablet to make sure you purchase the correct part.

Most retail stores sell the USB adapter, for the Inverter, you can try Walmart, Home Depot, Target, or online @ Amazon, etc.
