Question MPG stinks on 2010 soul

Does anyone else have the same problem I'm having. I bought a Sport model, I love the car overall but the MPG in the city sucks. The sticker and Kia's site say 24 city(range is 20 to 28 depending on how you drive) 30 highway, the highway is right there but the city on mine is getting about 15 to 16. I have gone through 3 full tanks and on two of them, all city miles I have not gotten more the 190 miles. The other tank I have gotten 220 miles but I put about 90 miles on the highway. I'm thinking of getting a lawyer, I bought the car based off of the millage, this is bull. I should be getting at least 240 or 250 (20mpg in the city)

i would double check all of the components that affect mileage before you get a lawyer. tire pressure, fuel grade, filters, lead foot, a/c and whatnot. plus you'd be pretty hard pressed to prove your driving style to your lawyer without having him there while you burn a whole tank. the fuel economy claims are not made by kia, they are made by the EPA, good luck suing them. if you take your car into the kia shop, and they can't fix the issue after four times, then you can file for lemon law, and get yourself a new one. I've gotten 26 or better in town and over 30 on the highway, but i don't hot-rod it either.

I think that you need the dealer to give the car a check over, that is very poor milage I have a 2l Cerato that gets a lot better milage. I think there must be a problem with the car because I'm sure most Souls would be getting a lot better milage. I'm sure it will be easy to find the cause.

Yes I do need to bring it in but it is just something I hate to do, I just got the car and I just want to drive it.

I don't drive it hard or have a heavy foot on the padel. I trade a 1992 BMW 325i that I was able to get about 20 mpg city by driving in a very careful manner. So I know it is not my driving. I'm trying to give it sometime so I know for sure it's not me.

I was going to give it a couple more fill-ups and then see what I get then, but for now this forums gives me a way to find out if other have/had this problem and a way to get my Frustrations out.

city driving is defined by a certain number of stops, driving with some certain speed and, what most important - with hot engine.

your mileage might be affected by terrain where you drive (hills?), your style (the style you used driving 325i does not have to be a good one for Soul - does Soul have 2.5 L engine?), weight you carry in the car, and, what is very important - mileage/age of the car.
I noticed improvement in my Rondo after 5000 miles, and it was getting better up to 10k miles.
Another thing was driving - it required different style of driving comparing to Intrepid (both have the same size on engine, but transmission allows me to save more in Rondo than in Intrepid - engine braking).

So, first get a ScanGauge II (helpful tool to show you how you drive, how much gas you use). Wait till you reach around 2000-4000 miles. The engine requires brake-in period. And it takes longer than 600 miles...

In city driving I got top 25 MPG (US) in Rondo, but with heavy foot - drops to 15-18... but at least I have fun
Hot - cold: the same trip, the same day. On cold start I got on average 16-18 MPG, while start on hot it jumped to 21-23.

I did squeeze more than sticker says, but it costs me (in terms of being patient and consistent).

also make sure you are using the correct numbers for the calculation. the soul tank hold 12 gallons but the the needle is basically on E and the light comes on at 10 gallons, i am sure you didnt drive it til it ran out of gas. so if you were figuring it from what the light came on then you should divide that 190 by 10 instead of 12 making it better.

one of the best ways to keep a figure is to reset the trip meter whenever you fill up then the next time you get gas divide the current trip miles by the amount of gallons it takes to fill up.

my soul seems to get 24-26 MPG no matter how i drove on that tank, AC on or off, highway or city.

It really depends on how you drive. Light on foot and you'll get good mileage.

Thumbs up mpg

I have gotten on avg 26mpg city and 32highway. I love my Soul, it's everything I had hoped it would be. No other compact, crossover has the style, amenities, the soul offers. Wouldn't trade my "Soul" for the world.
