I'll add one comment on the mileage. I know lots of folks are disappointed, but understand it's a cost associated with getting a boxlike cargo area with 60+ cubic feet of storage. Tall, short boxes are not aerodynamic. They never will be. And aerodynamics is the main component of highway mileage, since air resistance is a non-linear equation (sorry, I'm an engineer).

In the Soul, you can store tall stuff in the back. And you don't bump your head in the back seat. The cost for that is a bit of highway mileage. If they changed the shape to be less practical, they could squeeze another 5 MPG. I think 30 MPG highway is pretty awesome for a rolling box that has awesome storage.

If you want high gas mileage and sports car handling, you bought the wrong subcompact CUV. You should have bought a Mazda CX3.

scooterct - some very good points and I too have owned 2 Souls.

However, the 2017 Turbo is not all black inside as they have sort of a houndstooth cloth textured seats with red stitching or are you referring to the dash and door panels?

My daughter has the Fit with the magic seats and they are certainly a handy feature but not really sure whether I could do any more in that vehicle vs mine with regards how I've use it. Kai would have to do some major redesign to do that as Honda does it by mounting the gas tank under the front seats which dramatically reduces the tank size - always a trade off. I like the floor height as it reduces the bending over when loading or unloading.

I totally agree about the navigation, one of the reasons I have a Garmin with free life-time upgrades and that doesn't cost even remotely close to the built-in ones. However, I think with Android Auto and Apple Carplay as standard that kinda takes care of that problem to a point.

I also agree with you about the size, they did not screw it up going from G1 to G2, so I would suspect it will not happen on the G3 (possibly in 2019) but it will be quite a challenge for the designers and engineers.

I would suggest that you fill out your location and drive info so that it shows up on the left side each time you post, it saves you having to keep repeating it and helps us in seeing the comments or questions in putting it in context as vehicles are not equipped the same worldwide. - thanks.

...and get a claustrophobic rear seat and pathetic cargo capacity. I sat in one before I bought my 2016 SX and with the driver's seat set for my comfort (5'-11") I had extremely difficulty getting in the back seat and could only do it by spreading my legs to the left and right to fit - no problem in my Soul with room to spare.

Conwelpic - I was referring mainly to the dash panel. I hate that horrible vertical black dash you get with most Souls, but I understand why they did it (integrate the 8" screen). We found a 2015 with a gray dash. It really cuts back on the feeling that you are driving around in a coffin. It's obviously a matter of personal taste, but I've always hated black interiors.

The comments on the CX-3 rear space are totally valid. That was the main reason I ruled out a CX-3 to buy my second Soul. But I stand firmly by my point that if you want both high mileage and amazing handling, you go with the CX-3 every time. If you want high mileage and amazing handling AND tons of space - uh, you're out of luck right now. I'm not aware of a subcompact CUV that gives you all three. The new turbo Soul gives you power, but does not qualify on the handling front. In fact, at the Detroit Auto show, the head of Kia styling talked about asking his engineers to give him a Soul GT - and they all laughed at him. Then he says they built one for him and he understood after a test drive.

Two things: the lack of a real trunk, and apparently I can't set the side rear view mirrors correctly. Other than that, I'm a happy customer. 2017 Kia Plus

I wish my dash had some gray in it, but they do not make that available in any Soul in Canada - unfortunately. KIA seems too obsessed with black in many of its vehicles (many other manufacturers are the same way too) and would like to see more variation like they offer in the US. The piano black accents do help but they are a dust magnet and think it would look better if they were in matte chrome finish or flat silver instead.

Hello everyone,

My wife and I recently got a 2017 Soul EX+ (traded in her 2014 Forte) and I would also say i'm quite happy with the car. Drives relatively smooth, and is quite stable, dispite it's taller stance. Of course nothing is perfect, so here are a couple of things i'm not the happiest about:

1. Visibility is great, probably one of the better cars i've driven in that regard, but why the small side mirrors? I feel as though they should be about 1/4 bigger than what they are now. Haven't put on the round wide angle mirrors on, but that should help things in that department.

2. The engine feels a bit on the noisier side somehow. This is the same 2.0L GDi as my wife's previous 2014 Forte, yet that car did not seems to suffer from as much engine noise. I wonder why, since other outside noises are well insulated from the cabin.

That's it so far, i'm sure they'll be more as the time of ownership grows.

set your mirrors correctly and there is no need for any additional mirrors, it takes a bit of getting used to but it works.

I find my 2016 Soul quite a bit quieter than my previous 2012.
