Default 2006 Sorento -Programming Keyless Entry Fob

Hi,
I recently bought a 2006 Sorento LX from a private seller in the US. It did not come with Keyless Entry Fob. However the dealer checked VIN number and told me that the car is equipped with the keyless entry kit.

I bought a Fob from ebay and tried to program it by shorting diagnos pin# 5 and 6. it did not work. then tried connecting pin #6 to battery again no hope.

Does any one know how to program the fob for 2006 SORENTO?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Default 2006 Sorento -Programming Keyless Entry Fob

Use this info at your own risk. Make sure you got the correct fob. If the diagnostic port does not look the same I would stop. Good luck. I have read many people have used this info and that it worked. Copy and paste to you browser. http://www.sorentosite.com/diy/keyfob/keyfob.htm Hope this helps.

All else fails go to a dealer and get it programmed for $50. You might wish to buy a second one first off ebay. As then they will program them BOTH for teh $50 as it is not more for two, just the hook up scanner charge for first one. You go back later it is another $50. After all you bought it cheap? Both the fob and the vech right? Pony up teh $50 and be done with it, if the self help short cut did not work.

BTW make double sure as nstoolman1 said that you bought the right fob, and if you do buy a second one first that as well the right one. Do a little research and find out which one was for the early vechs and which is for teh later ones. My 2004 fob will not work for a late 2006 and newer I am almost sure. Only 2004-2006 early. I think the easy way to tell but this far from in stone is. And it sounds silly I know! If you have the 3.5L V6 4spd auto the fobs are early 2002-2004 and late 2004-2006. If you have the 3.8L 5spd auto they are all the same then. At least in the USA for factory keyless entry.

PLNBONTEC-T009 2002-2004 Square three button
PLNBONTEC-T016 2004-2006 Square four button and what mine a 2004 (04/04) Sorento LX has.
PLNHM-T011 2007-on Rectangle three button and what it appears my nieghbor has on a 2008 EX

Thanks nstoolman1. This was the first procedure I tried but it did not work for me.
I have a 2006 Sorento 5 speed. The manufacture date is 07/05. The dealer here charges $100 just to program the device.
I bought the device from ebay and
Key Fob FCC ID: PLN BONTEC-T016 (Square 4 button)

I really appreciate any help.

Thanks!

Then you have the 3.8L 5spd auto?. And the T016 fob is doing what i said. Not working. And you might have needed to buy the T010. You need to dig to be sure better.

BTW when i bought mine the dealer tried to charge me for teh extra set since they gave me only one set. And when I found out that it was $110 plus tax for a Key/Key fob/cut/program I told them no and they better put my plates back on my trade. So $100 to just program is INSANE! They are pissed at you for buying the vech/key fob and makeing you pay for it thru the nose.
