Ok, I will explain thou I think it might be a loosing battle. If this can not clear up things then you really need to NOT touch your vech. And let someone at a garage or dealer do anything for you.

Does your vech have the SPORT SHIFT trans with the +- gated shifter that hold the gears till you push up or down in the extra other side GATE? This trans has two sides for the SHIFTER GATE. One is PRNDL and the other is simply +-.

Valvoline Maxlife Automatic Transmission Fluid is compatible with all DEX fluids and is a little cheaper, plus it will recondition the seals. I believe it will work in either of the automatic transmissions as well.

If you do not have a way to flush the lines I would recommend taking it to a shop with a T-TEC machine or equivalent, that way the lines get cleaned out well. If you are going to do it your self and you drop the pan to clean the screen, don't forget to clean the pan seal gasket. Also, changing the filter would be a good idea, but I'm assuming you were planning on that.

Oh and I had no idea what he was talking about when he said shifter gate, I've never heard that before. It's usually called a tiptronic shifter.

Peace.

there are no compatible fluids with kia red-1, you are stuck with the kia fluid ! @ about $ 8 bucks a quart !

supposedly it is a sythetic fluid

a side note, last year we drove right past Apollo plant in KY, i had half a thought to take a quart of it in (i keep one in the sorento) and ask about it in detail but did not, somehow i got the feeling i would have got now where with my questions

maybe somebody in the fourms in KY close to the plant may try it

This is unwise advise. RED-1 is just that and nothing else will work. Maxlife i have seen but have not read the label. If it tells you it is the same chem SPEC as DexI/II/III then ok. But if it is only like the crap they use at iffy lube and the like places. UNIVERSAL/ compatable use stuff. Then it is highly unwise to use it. There is not one size fits all trans fluid. unless you do not care about the friction material on the clutch paks. Just as there is not a one size fits all Freon to use in both R-12 and R134a A/C systems. Unless you do not care about the o-rings it eats away. It is either one or the other not both. The main requirement is that it be chem formula SPEC the same. Just like like you do not want to use P/S fluid in a brake master.
Depending on the age and trans maker. There are six or seven maybe more seperate trans fluids that are not alike at all. And should never be mixed. Unless you wish to by a trans. A few are.

TypeF-DexI/II/III-DexIV-Hondamatic-SpcI/II/II-RED1-CHry 7256-ATF+4

As for the shifter gate issue. I assumed WRONG that those in here could deal with the 4spd auto and 5spd auto terms. And only added for extra measure of help the +- gate thing. I assume again WRONG that those that had a shifter with a +- setting(tiptronic in VW/Audi terms. Sport Shift in Hyun/KIA) and drove it knew they had it a 5spd or not. And those that did not knew they had a 4spd. See I was right all along and pstn was wrong. To little info in here is a major problem. Many people do not know if they got a 4 or 5 spd it seems.
