Default '03 Lights Flashing Wildly

2003 Sorento. ALL lights sometimes flash after turning ignition off. Appear to be in hyper-speed wave sequence. (when watching door panel they flash top to bottom) Only stops when its ready.
Purchased from dealer this week. One (and only) prior owner gave it rave reviews. Traded it for newer model. Arranging to take it back to dealership to be checked out. My daughter REALLY wants this car.
Suggestions, ideas about what could cause this?

well in your post to me you said it was the parking lights and dash ????/
How long do they flash ...min....hour ...week ???
does the door buzzer work ok
Is anything else not working as it should
If you try to start it when its flashing does it start ok and flashing stop ?
My brain is thinking of some sort of earth fault but usually something else would be affetcted.
We still dont have proper information on the vehicle .... location ..mileage ? 2x2 or 4x4 ..3.5l etc
fill in your details !!!!!

2003 Sorento, 2x2
parking and interior lights flash 1, 2 minutes or longer
we can not stop them, they stop when they are ready
key in/key out - makes no difference
ignition on/off - no difference
happens only when engine just turned off
no open door buzzer sounding, only lights flashing in fast sequence (top to bottom on door panel)
matters not if parking brake is on or off
this happens intermittently
everything works great when engine is running

What lights on DOOR PANEL flash? And how do they flash form top to bottom? Does this 2003 have factory alarm? or aftermaket dealer install crap one form first owners. Might be a malfuction that or the system telling/asking you to arm it before you walk away form vech. Sorta like idiot proofing it so you do not forget. Amkes all this lights and flashes and you must arm it to shut it off. OR it jsut goes on doing this till a two min "ok the yutz left it open what can I do" and it turns itself off. The factory VOLVO system i had did this. All sorts of light flash till you arm it. If you do not in one min after opening adn closeing door with out starting it, it turns itself off and just chalks it up to you want the car stolen.

good thought on the alarm ...as the door chime is not working I was wondering if that unit was flashing the lights due to earth problem ??..it does not say if it starts when they open the door ??

Let me preface this with "I am not an electrical technician or wireing expert".
My wild thought is could this have any thing to do with the dome light diode that goes bad? I know it's probably a stretch but for $12 or so I would try replacing it. When mine went out "03 2wd" it had a pretty wierd effect on my exterior lights. Just a thought and my .02 worth.

After market alarm system - good question. I'll check into that. Definitely has after market key-fob, maybe that's what those extra buttons are for - it has no directions and a web search for info about the fob was unfruitful.
Yes eng starts indiscriminately, door open/shut.
I'll check the dome light - could be why it wasn't flashing.
I appreciate the thoughts. I'll try to check them out this weekend.

ap03: I forgot to mention in my post that mine also has an aftermarket alarm. Replacing the diode for the dome light took care of it.

Please unconfuse me now? After all these posts on this. Just what did teh old owner say? And if they did say anything why is so hard to ask what the hell is going on now of them? Or if it did this before the dealer or you got ahold of it? Or was this some BS line the dealer gave you to sell it, and you never talked to the old owners? This is not what you really lead us to think before. Just wondering.
