Default 04 Sorento dome light diode

Does anyone have the specs for the diode near the fuse box that controls the center dome light. I see a lot of problems with the original and even factory replacements. It seem they are undersized and I would like to replace it with a larger capacity. I can wire it in, I just need to know what to look for at radio Shack, ect.
Thanks,
Steve

start with a 3 amp then a 5 amp that is what i did with marklift sizzor lift dump circuit diodes, orignal were 3 amp and were to small so we replaced them with 5 amp diodes

i think kia uses very low quality diodes, so the amp capicity may very by as much as 20%

20% electrictronic componets costs much less then 5% componets (not per piece but by tens of thousands of vehicles) it makes i difference to cheep vehicle mfg's

This one should do:

RadioShack.com - Cables, Parts & Connectors: Component parts: Diodes & rectifiers: 6A, 50V Rectifier Diodes (4-Pack)

The LT6A05

Default Thanks

You guys are right on. I went this morning to Radio shack on a hunch and bought those very ones. I had a 3 amp here and I tried it, but it got too warm for my taste, so I tried the 6 A. It does get warm also, but it's more gradual and it levels off at what I feel is an acceptable temp. I think it's good. Are the map lights supposed to work with the door too? I forgot if they ever did. When I was looking for the diode initially, I found another one ,same kind, tucked back there too. I wonder if that's a problem too. Probably should quit while I'm ahead.
Thanks again
Steve

Good to hear you making headway.

If you're still concerned with the heat, then why not use a bridge rectifier (only one of the four diodes) and it can be screwed to a small piece of aluminium if needed to dissipate more heat - that is if you have the space to accommodate it.

RadioShack.com - Cables, Parts & Connectors: Component parts: Diodes & rectifiers: 25A, 50V Full-Wave Bridge Rectifiers

Default For increased current rating try this!

Double up the diodes by putting 2 in parallel. Be sure you match Cathode to Cathode and Anode to Anode.

The voltage drop will be the same but the current handling will increase.

I have a question on this subject. I called the dealer and they told me that no kia is saying to eliminate the diode in the circuit. Is this fact of fiction? What kind of problem could occur if this happens?

Thanks

Jason

If you could get a schematic diagram I'd take a look and explain what the effect would be without the diode.

I suspect all that the dome light will switch on with other switches such as the trunk/hatch without the diode.

Maybe to make this thread complete someone could post a picture of where the dome light diode is. I can't locate it in my 03 sorento. With the diode location pictured and the alternative part number people ending up on this thread will have the complete package for quick efficient repair. Thanks!!
