My 2004 MY LX 3.5L 4spd auto manual pages said DexIII not DexII so I would reread the book carefully. As with all Dex fluids you can go forward and up but NEVER back. So

DexI vech can take DexII and then DexIII and most vechs have taken DexIII for years that take a Dextron fluid. DexII is very old.
But a DexIII vech can never take DexI or DexII.

As for MOBIL Synth as long as the Synth is DexIII spec and it says so not just multi use like jiffy lube would put in it, then it is ok. And in fact I recall reading that DexIV is a synth.

And you do realize that you will never get all the fluid out unless you do a machine flush. So putting in 4 Qts Mobil synth trans fluid in will only mix and dilute the Mobil fluid with the 6+ Qts DexIII left in there. That is unless you dry fill a brand new trans/conv or a rebuilt set one. And where the lines and cooler have been drained as well.

Thanks for the heads up.
I read from a lot of sorento owners that its useless to change to synthetic if you dont flush out all the oil and also i read from others that its a no, no to drain all the oil cause it might clog some parts inside? My question is, is it safe to just drain 4 liters then add synthetic? Many thanks in advance

That is why I said you will never get all of it out. Along with becareful of your Dex numbers for top off's

1)never top up a trans that has DexIII in it with DexII
2)Never machine flush a trans that has not had its fluid changed regularly. Let alone never before 70,000. Good idea was short cut drain and top up at no later then 35,000 and 105,000. And complete machine flush at 70,000 and 140,000 if you get there.
3)Not a great idea to drain and top a trans running 11 or more qts DexIII with 4 qts Synth. And why would want to? Think of it this way. You love veg oil and red wine vineger salad dressing for years. One day you say ok to day I will mix in 1/3 Extra Virgin Olive Oil to replace 1/3 of the veg oil. At first all you think is it tastes slightly funny but it is no big deal. Then the next day or a few later after eating like that for a few days. In the middle of the night you start to get the wake up at 2am with a colon flush and 20 mins in the bathroom till you can go back to bed and sleep. Will this happen with your trans? Maybe, maybe not. But why risk it and $4500. You either keep using DexIII or machine flush and refill with Synth. And if you have over 70,000 on it and it has never been touched, reread NUMBER (2) carefully.

Well would rather be known for making things more compilcated to understand then leaving holes in a explaination as others do. See I subscribe to the theory. Keep it simple, stupid as well as you do pistn. But I do not think Keep it TOO simple,TOO stupid is good like you do. As it is very much prone to vagueness. And then people going off with half info like you give out much of the time and breaking things. I make sure they know and will not break things form the info, jsut bad workmanship. I can not control that part. ENUF said. But thanks for the vote of you liked the COLON FLUSH joke.

And as this IS a forum. Anyone is more then welcome ANYTIME to ask questions of me in regards to clarifing better what you think I said or what they need to do if they are not sure. Some have asked me here to do just that. Others have emailed me direct and done so. I have had a few mail me to ask what I thought YOU said/meant. As they thought and knew there was something missing. But were not at all sure why or what. A few more "making it complicated" details and they were on there way and happy and working on it safely.
