Default Anyone changed their rear diff fluid?

Tried to change my rear fluid yesterday to discover my socket wasn't big enough, I only had up to a 21mm. Borrowed the neighbours 24mm which was slightly loose but worked on the fill point but didn't fit onto the drain plug due to the raised ring around it. Went and bought a 23mm today and that doesn't seem to fit the drain one either, this time it seems like it may be slightly too small for the plug itself. Does anyone know what the exact dimension is? Maybe it's an imperial size? What socket size have people used if they can even remember!?

They are both 24mm ..the drain has a ring arround it so it carnt get ripped out off road. I turned the outer diameter of my 24mm socket down in the lathe a fraction so it fits ..or use an angle grinder. The external diameter of the socket should not be over 33mm to go in the recess.
Most important to jack up the rear axle 8 inches higher than thefront when you fill it as KIA have increased the oil capacity....

Thanks yet again Pistn! Was thinking along the angle grinder lines myself, but during lunch today popped into the Repco down the road from work and they graciously let me try a 15/16th Imperial socket that fitted like a glove, so I promptly bought it. Had calculated this AM that 15/16ths is 23.8mm so was hoping it may squeeze in there, and bingo!

Is that requirement to lift the rear end 8" higher than the front when filling valid for an 05? What about when changing the front end, do I need to lift it higher than the rear when filling?

Yes you have to lift rear of your 05 Sorento for proper fluid change, here is the info:

And you do not have to lift the front, just leveled surface
