Default tune up

Hi all, just had the air fixed under warranty (just) on our 03 Sedona ex and dealer reccomends a $690.00 tune up. Now I know the recommended plugs are about $10.00 ea. Can anyone tell me how they can justify such an outragous cost? I plan to do the tune up myself. I should mention this dealer also suggested 4x4 service @$289.95 even though this particular Kia is 2wd.
Finally, it is also recommended we change the timing belt @$980.00. The book says suggested in all states but California. (This Kia is a california car now located in chicago)

The longlife plugs are costly just find them elseware. The timing belt replacment price is IMHO out of sight HIGH. Run from that dealer quickly. Now myself I think 60K is way too low for any change with the timing belts. It's just a cash cow for dealers and I don't worry about Kias worthless warrantys as many are finding out they always fine a gotya for getting out of them.

There is no such thing as a tune up on a computer controlled car only mantanence .
a belt change is a good idea and 60,000 miles is about average with most makes. California is not forcing you to change the belt its just giving you the option to choose ....if it breaks ..its new engine time ..you can remove top right hand cover and check the conditon...if you have a sedona you are on the wrong page of the forum ...........bye

exactly where can you check the belt? top right hand cover of what?

My '03 just hit 68,000 and I'd like to see how the belt is holding up...

Thanks!

looking at the engine under the hood the right hand cover can be removed from over the two camshaft drive wheels and expose the belt .this is where you access the cam position sensor which can give trouble ,,,...but beware looking does not really tell you anything unless you see damage and then its " oh shit " time .if it looks good it does not mean it is good ...bit like a woman.....examine the inside of the cover for bits of rubber dust etc...see if its the right width and the back is not scored ...but if its 68000 you should change it pronto.. change the water pump every second belt ...
