Default Oil filter question

I searched but didn't find the answer.
I was wondering, since Hyundai and Kia are the same, if my Sorie is like my Elantra, that I need to buy only the manufacturer's oil filter.
I have always had it done at the dealers, but it's quicker (and cheaper) to do it myself. I find the Hyundai filters to be as cheap as ones from the parts store, figured Kia is prolly the same.

if you are in the States, no you don't have to buy the manufacturers oil filter to keep the warranty in effect. There is a law in the states ( Magnuson Moss law) that in effect says that you don't have to use anything that that manufacturer sells, any part that meets OEM can be used. Just keep the reciepts to prove that you did change the oil. the only caveat is that if the engine blows the dealer can try to fight the repair by stating that you didn't use there filter or oil or what ever. My dealer charges me about 3 doolars for filter and gasket just about the same as a Purolator.

Agree with you. But if your dealer is selling you filters and pan gaskets for $3 not 3 doolars then buy them in BULK and sell them here on the forum. AS even walmart can not sell FRAM crap for that. And I have NEVER seen a PUROLATOR in any store for $3. Last time i looked PEP BOYS power tech in house filters were made by Purolator. But even then for our vech they are not $3. And not with a drain pan gasket thrown in. Recheck your data. Maybe once a year on sale with rebate.

Ok so it wasn't $3.00. The last time I bought a filter for my Sorento at Pep Boys I paid $3.29 and I got a gasket. In fact it was buy one get one free with rebate coupon. But at my dealer I get them for under $3.00 with gasket as I get 15% off on parts.

Humm interesting. As I pay when i do as most times my changes are free. But when i do and I get the 15% as well it is $5.50(5.05+.45) with gasket. A 26330-35503 filter that is on my vech on KIA PARTS DIRECT is $5.95 before shipping and no gasket. And that is jsut what the dealer here sells OEM for $5.95. Walmart today as i was there and look for teh hell of it is FRAM CRAP 9866 $4.25 for spin-on and 9995 i think was $4.49 with orings for drop in. Gskets were $1.25 pack of two. Parks Auto was WIX 51334 for $6.25 and Advance auto was $5.95 for AC DELCO. Last time i asked NAPA it was 1334 (WIX MADE) and $6.95. So where do we send the order request to for you? Hell at $3 or less as you state you get them. Ten filters are $32.10 with 7% tax and for YOU to ship a case like KIA DIRECT does can not be more then $10(and thiers is not that much). So that is $4.21 and well below any dealer or parts store.
