Question Help! Shuddering when going over bumps in road

On the 4th we drove over a bump in the road and it felt like we had a blow out to our left rear side. We pulled the car over and the tires were fine there was nothing wrong with them. The next day the car drove fine until we were driving home, we went over another bump and suddenly it felt like the front part of the car had just had a blow out. Once again we pulled the car over and nothing was wrong. The shuddering stops once you come to a complete stop but once you go over a bump it kicks up again.

*We don't know much about cars but we put the car up on the jack and looked in under the engine everything looks fine*

The covers are all in place we are missing one bolt on one cover we took the covers off and the gasket, radiator, and engine are intact. The brake pads do need to be changed, the rims have spots on them that have developed from when it was snowing. I don't know if this could be the rotors or a more serious problem and most repair shops are closed today even KIA.

Oh and it has 100k+ miles on it. 2004 model.

Please Help!

Thanks in Advance.

Thumbs down Poor Design of frontend parts

My 2003 Sorento with under 2000 miles whe new shook when driven over a rough place in highway. It's because of the way Kia has their Sorentos stearing designed. IMHO not a quality design. So with 100K+ miles I bet your frontend and stearing parts have worn and this allows the nasty shuddering you feel.

Once I hit the bump it continues until I come to a complete stop. I'm going to go to Just Brakes tomorrow, cuz it sounds like it's the brakes the engine runs fine. Theres some screeching with the tires as well and its worse when I step on the brake peddle fast. That kicks the shuddering in as well. Does that sound like a brake problem?

I sure would have the brakes looked at as many have had warped rotors. This might be some of the problem.

Wheels out of balance ..lost weights ??
Shock absorbers ( dampers )
Wear in steering suspension joints ...tyres squeal could indicate this ..how is the tyre wear ...even or to one side ??
Breaking on a smooth road would show up rotors warped as a vibration in the pedal or steering wheel..

I put my money on dampers and the thump is it hitting the rebound stop

they can test this ..they put thewheel on a plate which vibrates vertically and gives a damper efficiency rating ...phone around and ask if they have a damper testing machine ??

We took it in today to Just Brakes, turns out the brakes were metallicized and that was the only problem with the brakes. They test drove it to make sure everything was fine. And the major shuddering problem was the rubber portion holding the drive shaft in place was missing. Yay, no shops have it and all dealers in Colorado Springs and Denver are 6-7 days out before I can get the part. So we have to have it custom made, $600 dollars down the drain. Has anyone else had an issue with that part?

you forgot to tell us it was a two wheel drive which has a two part prop shaft and the centre bush is prone to wear...supprised they did not pick this up at the dealer or service ...

Frustrated_Girl: I had a center bearing support bushing go out on my 03. Fortunately it was under warranty. At the time they had no replacement parts yet. They replaced the entire driveshaft. Dealer told me a new one was $600-$700. The part is now available. Did you call other dealers (outside of your area) and see if it is available? You can always buy one out of state and have it shipped. For the same money buy a new driveshaft. Don't let them sell you a product you don't need.
