Thumbs up Induction Control Valve (ICV) Recall now in Canada

The ICV recall has now been announced in Canada on June 4th.The recall covers most 2003, 2004 and 2005 Kia Sorento. Call your dealer with your serial number to see if yours is affected and they will be able to take care of it for you.

Default icvrecall

i have a 2003 kia sorenta ex, i am finding all sorts of things about this vehicle. what is a icv?(recall). i just recieved a recall letter on the intake manifold, which we just had fixed in april. if you have problems with lunging and the engine cutting out and dying at stop lights it is probably the manifold . we had all 4 oxygen senors replaced because it gave a false reading when plugged in , so make sure they check your manifold before replacing those. we have also had the crankshft bolt replaced, the throttle senor replaced and the crank sensor replaced and now have to have the air bag sensor replaced. we bought this kia used in feb. of ' 07 and just loved the truck and how it drove and looked, but now knowing what i know and 2500.00 later in repairs that truck would not be sitting in my driveway right now. if anyone could please tell me what an icv is i would appreciate it because it is going back in the shop for the air bag senor to be replaced and the rotors flipped and if i know what this is it will help me in case it had not been fixed yet. thanks

Default ICV Recall description

Here is the letter that describes the recall. Glad to see that Kia is taking a proactive approach to this issue and is getting this known trouble spot taken care of.

Dear Kia Sorento Owner:
Kia is conducting a voluntary service campaign to replace the induction control valve in certain 2003-2005 Kia Sorento’s equipped with 3.5 liter engines.

What is the Problem?
• A metal clip which is part of the induction control valve in the intake manifold of your vehicle’s engine may sever off. If this occurs, abnormal engine noise and vibrations may occur along with impaired engine functioning and loss of vehicle power. The problem may also illuminate the “Check Engine” light on your dashboard. However, the problem may exist and engine damage may occur without the “Check Engine” light illuminating.

What Will Kia Do?
• Your Kia dealer will remove the original induction control valve and replace it with an improved one at no cost to you.

What Should You Do?
• This repair will be performed the next time that your vehicle is taken to a Kia dealer for any service activity. However, the time required to make this repair to your vehicle will require extended time aside from any scheduled maintenance. As the time required is dependant on the dealer’s work schedule, an appointment for this repair is required.

• Should you have any concerns, please contact your Kia dealer at any time to book an appointment to perform this repair prior to your next scheduled service.

I got my letter around 6/2. I made an appointment and took it to the dealer on 6/9. I've had two recalls completed since I bought the car on 4/15/08. My Dealer (Jeff Wyler in Cincinnati) is the greatest so far. When I bought the car used they told me I could have a loaner car anytime I needed service as I bought a extended warranty for 2/24,000. I drove around all day in a new Optima with 50 miles on it and a full tank of gas. Didn't even have to fill the tank back up when I came to pick up my car!

Default Could the ICV breakage indirectly cause other problems?

I received my recall letter from Kia concerning the ICV in the intake manifold and I’m taking my 2003 Kia Sorento into the dealership today to be fixed. The letter states that “engine damage may occur” so I was wondering if anyone knows if other problems could be caused by the ICV breaking off? Should I ask them to check for anything else and would it be covered by Kia if additional problems are caused as a result of the breakage? Thanks for your help!
