I don't quite understand, how can anybody be selling a Sorento you can't drive as it doesn't have a key ??? Don't want to sound unreasonable but how come it hasn't got a key, and who buys a vehicle they can't drive ?? The immobiliser system is designed to stop theft and shouldn't be bypassed. I'm sure any legit owner could obtain a key and have their dealer program it !! Just my thoughts, would hate to see these forums being used as places to find info on "how to steal a Sorento" !!

Cheers

Derek

No You're following me !!! and below is my reply to yours in the other forum. I still say that we shouldn't be openly making information available through these forums that gives people the methods to steal our vehicles. If you wanted to ask a member by direct correspondence then that's one thing, they can check out who you are if they wish, but to put information on these sites telling people how to steal vehicles that are equipped with imobilisers to stop just that, is asking for trouble in my opinion.

Below is the answer I've given on Sorentosite:

I didn't say "you" were trying to steal it, but the information you're asking for is exactly what somebody who "was" trying to steal it would need, that's my point and frankly I think we have to careful on forums such as this when giving out information that "could" help people steal vehicles. I'm sure that the information you require would be available through a Canadian dealer or the local Kia help line, both of whom would be in a position to ensure that the vehicle was completely legal, something that we are not.

Cheers

Derek

It is very simple to do it with a sorento anyway. A friend of mine told me this. I never tested it personally to be honest.
You simply reverse the battery car polarity (connecting the + cable to the - battery terminal and the + battery terminal to ground)
Leave it like this for 5 minutes. Then restore original connection. The immo unit is now disabled for ever.

Yes and I would bet that a lot of other things are disabled forever also!

If you reverse the battery you will bugger the alternator for certain and as quoted lots of other things could also be damaged...where do these stupid ideas come from? Sounds like a Greek Tragedy to me !!!!!

As I mentioned before its not my idea and I never tested it. An Aussie guy I met this summer told me this trick.

And to be serious.....

What kind of info - other than this- you want me to give to a guy that came to the forum just to take info on how to steal our cars?

Check Derek's comments pls...
