In Australia we quote fuel consumption in litres per 100km - and our govt standard testing has a consumption range for the 3.5 petrol Sorento of 10.0 highway, 13.5 city. I range consistently with gentle city/freeway driving at 12.5-14.5 l/100k. I have seen 10 (23.5 mpUSg) on an interstate cruise. But 35mpg (approx 6.7l/100k)? The new Hyundai Santa Fe diesel doesn't even achieve that. So if his numbers are correct, that owner better hang onto that particular Sorento, it's special.
i am getting around 29mpg in and around town, and if i stick to 70/75 mph on the motorway i can get around 39/40mpg. i get 28mpg on the motorways when i have the caravan on the back. which is a bailey senitor wyoming t/a. these figures are with shell and bp going through the fuel lines. they are not as good with esso and total. and if you realy want shyt mpg then fill up at the supamarket you will
I think someone has been smoking something to beleive those figures!!!!!

Even when you consider it's a diesel and the figures are based on UK (imperial) gallons those figures are barely believable. On a 2004 model with 4 speed auto I did get about 35 mpg with mostly highway usage. With the 2008 (higher output) diesel auto I am getting around 27 mpg with similar usage - go figure? I also usually use Shell fuel, so no difference there. Reports from UK forum show the quoted figures to be a rarity, even for a manual transmission.

I do think the consumption improves as the engine runs in ...you need maybe 15-20k miles for it to drop ...I get 12.5 l/100 km thats 22.7 mpg uk or 18.86 us ..with hot air intake and Nulon Friction reducer in engine.tyres at 36psi....10 l/100 km or slightly better on the freeway 28.8 uk mpg or 23.5 US and thats using the scangauge ....If you are doing tank /milage you need to do over 5-10 tank fulls to average out the inaccuracies ...AND DONT USE THAT ETHANOL CRAP IS LETHAL FOR YOUR GAS MILAGE ...
Here in Oregon we are forced to have 10% ethanol and I really notice it. I drove 200 miles north into Washington and only averaged 21 mpg (granted 80 miles was at 75 mph) but on the way back, with real gasoline, we averaged 24 mpg.
Question: When trying that cone filter idea, did anyone notice a high pitched frequency, coming maybe from the ECU, at certain throttle positions? The high pitched frequency is not there once you reinstall the normal filter assembly.
24 mpg or 28 mpg I don't know how you guys do it, but I have a stock 2006 V6 Sorento 2WD w/ 97000+ miles and the most I can do is 22 mpg, that is going 75mph in the interstate, city driving I get about 16/17 mpg and the manufacturers rating for this vehicle is 21 mpg hway
