Default Interior lights

Quick (simple - maybe even dumb) question: On my 2003 Sorento, when I open the door the roof lights for the rear seats come on, but not for the front seats. Are the front seat lights supposed to come on too when you open the door? You can manually turn on the front seat lights, so I know the bulbs work.

Thanks.

Nothing wrong, that's the setup...people have wired a diode to hook-up the map lights to work as a dome light but too much work in my mind. Hope that answers your question.

Thanks. That answers my question. It just seemed weird that it didn't come on like my other vehicles.

I have a 2003 and as many will attest this is a problem for the earlier models. There is a diode that goes bad and the doem light stops working and the dealer replaces it with a newer one. There is a TSB bulletin for this fix and if your Sorento is under 60k miles it should still be covered. Email me and I can forward a copy of the bulletin

Great information, however he was asking why the map lights in the front don't come on light the dome and cargo lights when you open the doors. I had my dome light diode changed out too.

Question We have the same problem

On my wifes 03 EX we seem to have the same issue. The only difference is that when we first got the vehicle (used) we had the same issue with the lights not coming on. After a week or so they just started coming on again. This past week, they went off and haven't come back on (with the doors open) since.

It seems to be an intermitent issue, on our Sorento, but any DIY link would be more than helpful. Has anyone done this themselves?

There is also a TSB for this along with your clock problem. It is a bad diode located by the fuse block in the drivers kick panel. Any dealer should replace it or I think it costs about $10 for a diy.

Default Replace Diode

Just FYI - I recently had the same problem with the dome light not operating when the doors are opened on my 2004 Sorento. I purchased the the part (Part #9138A-3E000) from KIA as I was just out of warranty and it's only about $14 bucks and not worth the time at the dealership. However, it will make you bawk though as it is smaller than a fuse and $14 bucks. Oh, well to replace it make sure you remove the kick plate next to the seat (simply pulls up only cliped in) then remove the other kick plate/side panel where the fuse door is, next to your left foot on the drivers side. This comes off with one screw (under the first plate you removed) and then another pop screw on the foot rest next to the pedel and then two push pins on the back you cannot see (comes off easily). Once removed there is a bundel of wires (right next to the fuse panel) with black foam insulation wrapped around it. You cannot see the diode plug as it is behind this insulation, just feel for the hard part of the wire (where the diode is) and then peel back the insulation to get to the diode. Pop out the old diode and put the new one in and like magic the light works again. Hope this helps and good luck if you have this problem. This should save you several bucks if you are out of warranty or simply don't want to hastle with the wonderful turnaround times of Kia service (LOL). Good luck.
