Bwee, Do you have the number for this clock TSB? Is it on the Kia Global Information system web site (kgis) at http://msw.kiausa.com/default.asp

My clock was in and out for the last few days and now it's finally done dieing. I am not home right now so cannot check the door/dome light function as well. Is the dome and clock fed from the same diode?

I guess I should read the TSB before pestering you guys!!

I am a new owner and am slowly wading through all the forums and posts. It may have already been posted , I just have not had the chance to get to it yet.

Thanks Bwee Et Al, for your help and patience, as I get up to speed. You've all saved me a bundle so far.

I have had two of this dome light diode go bad-the original and one replacement. I bought my second one and intended to get a heavy duty diode from the electronics store and wire that in using the new one as a polarity check. But in closely examining the factory electrical manual, showing the wiring scheme of the diode, I could not see why they use it. It seemed from the diagram that you could just short the connector and no negative effect would take place. So I did that. Everything works fine-the dome light comes on when it should, goes out when it should, dims to off after closing the door like it should and can be shut off or lit continuosly like it should. Nothing wierd happens. So you could say good by to this problem for good by just jumper wiring the sockets in the small connector where the diode goes.

Can you direct me to some detailed description of how to do this? It seems like something I'd be interested in trying. Thanks!

Not knowing where the diode was when I initially had this problem I found that there is another diode in the Overhead Courtesy Light. I checked it and it was good but replaced it anyway to no avail. I checked the switches out and traced out the lamp assembly and seemed to have the correct voltages which even faded out when the door was closed. It left me with scratching my head until I found this forum and the location of the diode in question. I opened the kick panel and found the diode which the dealer had already replaced under warranty. I pulled out the diode, checked it and found it was good. I put it back in the holder and it started to work. It looks like the diode holder may be the problem. If the contact become resistive the diode could draw more than the rated current causing the diode to fail.

I would be a little leary of permanently jumping the diode. One use of diodes besides rectification and switching is to prevent the reverse flow of voltage. If the diode in the lamp assembly is actually the switching diode used to remotely control the lamp and if that diode shorts, it could cause the voltage to go where it's not supposed to. If that happens, lots of other things could go poof.

Just a thought!!!

I have a 2006 Sorento with the same dome light problem. Where is this diode located? Is there a picture of this location available?

Go over to www.sorentosite.com and do a search for diode. There are pictures there.

Actually, look at the last reply on page 1 of this topic. It is pretty well described there.
