Does anyone have hear a slight rattling noise when you first start up the sorrento after its been sitting for awhile (most cases overnight) and shifting into gear (forward, or reverse)? The noise disappears when the car is in neutral or park and only lasts a minute or two. When i called kia about this, the service tech said that is common with the sorrento and that is because the oil needs to recirculate to lubricate all parts. He continued to say that, once this happens, you can stop and restart the car many times throughout the day without hearing the problem again. It only occurs when the car has been sitting for some time.
If this is the case, isn't that a bad thing if parts aren't lubricated that need to be??????

I own 2005 Sorrento for a year now - and I never had this problem. On the other hand I live i a pretty warm climate - Northern VA, and the oil does not get really cold in here.
Definetly get a second opinion - 2 minutes of noise and vibration does not sound normal by any stretch of the imagination, unless, of course, KIA pays you for that imagination. The tech sounds like baloney to me, you either have a mechanical problem, or the wrong sort of oil in your car, they simply do not want to deal with the problem, because if it is not oil it is going to be hard to find, a costly to repair, so it is cheaper for them just to talk you down.
Where are you? Which engine? Presume auto transmission from your post, right? Is it the engine that rattles or the transmission? More info helps people to help you.
Hi Guys, My '06 Sorento EX has the same noise, but I know what it is on mine. The Gas Tank door cover rattles on the body a little when it is cold. I figured this out with the help of my Son. This is a very minor deal with an easy fix. I hope this is all your problem is too !
if youre in a really cold cliamte you may want to switch to a lighter oil liek a 5-20W. have someone sit in the car get unde the hood or under the car and see if you can pinpoint where the rattle is coming from. Could be valve noise. Do you use good oil filters. make sure the ones you use have a ANTI drain back feature. it may be lifter noise

Not sure if this is the same, but I have a 2005 Sorento; just recently purchased, and i noticed tonight that when going from 1st to 2nd gear and sometimes to 3rd, there is a rattling noise. (obviously this is a manual transmission) However, I am not sure if that is normal, it does not sound normal. It also seemed to only happen when I was going slower in those gears, right at the point where I should shift down. Once the speed picked up though the noise/rattling went away.
I don't mean to resurrect an old thread, but does anyone have the TSB # that was referenced? My wifes 06 Sorento EX has this rattle and I'm trying to find more information on getting it resolve.
