Is this noise when you first start Veh. up or when you put it in gear. If its when you first start a cold engine ( Ticking noise ) it might be lifters. There is a tech bulletin KT2007121201 about the correct oil filter. Go to www.Kiatechinfo.com and register and look up bulletin.

On my vehicle the noise starts to happen after you put it in gear, when first started in the morning. The noise does go away after the vehicle has ran for a minute or two.
Does anyone have hear a slight rattling noise when you first start up the sorrento after its been sitting for awhile (most cases overnight) and shifting into gear (forward, or reverse)? The noise disappears when the car is in neutral or park and only lasts a minute or two. When i called kia about this, the service tech said that is common with the sorrento and that is because the oil needs to recirculate to lubricate all parts. He continued to say that, once this happens, you can stop and restart the car many times throughout the day without hearing the problem again. It only occurs when the car has been sitting for some time.
If this is the case, isn't that a bad thing if parts aren't lubricated that need to be??????
Thanks!

I heard a slight rattle when i first bought my car (mornings only) and decided to dump the oil that the Kia Dealership had filled and replaced it with a locally produced (ADNOC Special) 20w/50 oil with a viscosity Index of 125.
What i first noticed about the oils Kia were using was that it stayed clear, even after 5,000 Km in our extreme climate. Im not an expert of lubricants but this meant the oil did not contain properties that cleaned the parts and propably didn't lubricate well either.
Your problem could be the oil you use so i would change it first. Try using BP Visco or Shell Standard products (stay away from the Shell Helix Rubish)

Sounds very much like a exhaust problem. Over night the exhaust contracts when cooled off. And once it is started again in AM it takes time a few mins for it to heat up and expand. Putting it in gear moves the eng/trans and exhaust slightly and you get a rattle till it warms up and the pipes expand then. This is due to a slight loose clamp or shield I should guess. Many vechs not only Kia have this issue. It is not major one if it goes away in two mins. Some vechs have it while others in a car model line do not. If yours has it then live with it for teh two mins it takes to go away. More trouble really tracking it down then worth right now for you. If it gets worse or steady then for sure get it looked at.
