Default Remote Keyless entry

I recently purchased a 2005 Sorento EX it came with only one key and remote fob. The dealer quoted $135 and $40 to program - Total $175

I found two web sites:

https://www.thepartsyouneed.com/disp...productId=1327

and

http://www.keylessride.com

Keyless Ride was about $60 each for the remote and programing instructions.

The Parts You Need was $30 each for the remote and programing instructions.

I purchased two from the Parts You Need store. They said that the remotes were original factory equipment.

Has anyone purchased a KIA remote from either of these two sites or had any experience purchasing a remote from either of these sites?

I will post my findings as to the results of my purchase in a week.

21 Aug 06 I did order two remotes from "thepartsyouneed.com in Cottonwood, Az". I was told that I could program up to 4. Plus I paid $29.95 for each. My credit was billed on 1 Aug 06. They got a US Postal tracking number assigned on 6 Aug 06, but have not shipped my product. I said I would give them another 3 days before I took any action. I called the US Postal service and talked to a person in Cottonwood and they recommend I file a fraud report. The Cottonwood post office is I was the second person in a couple of days with the same complaint. Lesson learned - should have waited for the write up from kwalkman.
Would have saved time and money.

I bought a spare remote off of Ebay. It was a factory remote and it only set me back about $18 with shipping. If you are concerned about the programming I can send you that proceedure. BUT if you buy a remote from an auction site make sure it has the same FCC number as the remote that came with the car. The number is found on the rear of the remote and it states FCC ID: XXXXXXX. And if you are tempted to buy more spares you can only program 2 remotes to operate the system. As soon as you program a second remote the system exits the program mode.

Default Remote Programming

The 2 atachments will show you the diagnostic connector, which is located on the left side towards the fender. Open the lid and compare it to one of the attachments named diagnostic connector and look at the bottom left photo. The other attachment is the instructions for programming. PLEASE by sure to jumper the proper terminals on the diagnostic connector. The diagram and the connector are both numbered. On mine it would only allow programming of 2 remotes and then it would automatically exit the program mode.

Hello,
Just wondering if this procedure will work for a 2004 Sorento EX. I have 2 remotes- 1 currently works, the other doesn't (even with a new battery in the remote- it was dead). Will both remotes have to be programmed during this procedure? Thanks!

I am unsure if the proceedure will work on a '04, but the possibility does exsist, and may be worth a try. If I was programming a new remote I would program the original one at the same time. Just stay in the program mode after the first is done and do the second and it should exit the program mode automatically.

Default ThePartsYouNeed.com

Ordered a spare remote from them 1 month ago and finally got the remote and instructions--order if you are not in a hurry to receive it--also if you have any questions for their customer service do not expect a reply.

Default keyfob

I found somewhere else on this site to jump pins 5 and 6 on the diagnostics plug, turn the key on, and then proceed to set the fob. I metered between 5 and 6 first and found 11.2 volts with the key on. I did not short them because that would be a dead short. That was dirty info that someone posted. Has anybody actually been successful at reprogramming one without the help of a dealer?
